Many People Resist Labels of Aging

Getting older is just a fact of life.  Still, in our culture, it is dreaded like some kind of curse.  All the life changes that can come with age usually have some negative associations which can lead people to resist making necessary changes to their lives.  One of these negative associations comes with the word “handicapped.”  Most people do not want a label that makes them feel inferior, so they resist making changes in important areas, to the point of failing to install handicap shower accessories, because this makes them feel lesser. It’s time to address aging with dignity and grace and allow people to do what they need to do in order to be safe and continue to function in their homes.
